“Whether you think you can, or think you can’t…you are right.” ~ Henry Ford
When I grew up I wanted to be a police woman, just like my Dad. Because that, in my eyes, was the most amazing job in the world…I was looking for that adventure, solving the puzzles of a crime, the interrogation, the chasing…oh I couldn’t wait to finish school and start my career in the Police Force. I could imagine it all. After writing Matric my father asked me about my ambitions and I said “a police woman, that’s what I want to be!” He looked at me, smiled and replied “Why don’t you try Social Work?”
And I guess that’s where a seed was planted…the Social Work studies opened up my world about people and their interesting behaviors and patterns…my passion began to bloom…and after watering the seed with philosophy and sociology and nurturing it with conversational techniques and developmental studies, I knew I was on the right path.
I am absolutely fascinated by the human mind and love to walk a path together with my clients to let them find their amazing inner powers and strength! It is just mind blowing to see how much inner resources people really have and how incredible powerful the human mind is.
After my Social Work studies I decided that it was time to leave the cold rainy Netherlands and it only seemed logical to come to South Africa. I planned on doing volunteer work for only 1 year, but here in South Africa I found love and life! I worked for nearly 4 years at a Hospice in Rustenburg where my training continued and where I learned an incredible lot about people, pain and dying, which awakened my curiosity about those inner resources that people seem to have. It is as Marcel Proust says: “It is grief that develops the powers of the mind.” I wanted to learn more about that part! And that is how I came to Hypnotherapy, the modality that works on a deeper level of the human mind, which opened up my world and understanding about the conscious and subconscious mind and about the incredible changes we are able to make! I have studied with the South African Institute of Hypnotism (for their website click here) and am a proud registered member ever since.
And so it seems my father was right and even though I am not solving the puzzles of a crime, I am passionate about putting pieces together by breaking through limiting beliefs in whichever way and I love seeing people transform beyond their imagination, to live the life they deserve!
